Michigan Tech Home Crowd Treated
to Competitive Series Versus #2 Minnesota
The defending NCAA national champion Minnesota Golden Gophers
came into town expecting pehaps an easy series against the Huskies. What
they got was a couple of thriller games that went right down to the final
minutes. The Huskies lead by a couple of goals early in on both Friday and
Saturday's games, only to have the Gophers storm back in the third period.
As they say, timing is everything. A timely goal at 14:43
of the 3rd gave Minnesota the win on Friday night, while the Huskies came
through with a game tying goal with 3:16 left in Saturday's game. Freshmen
defensemen John Scott, who stands 6'7" tall and is currently the tallest
player in college hockey, scored his first collegiate goal to even the game
up.

Huskies Complete St. Lawrence Series
With 4-4 Tie
In a very competitive game that proved to be a nail-biter and
an emotional roller coaster, the Huskies denied the St. Lawrence Saints the
satisfaction of a win. MTU lead 3-1 at one point, only to find themselves
down 4-3 with less than a minute to go. Freshmen goaltender Rick Cazares,
who made his NCAA debut, was pulled late in the third period to allow the
Huskies to even it up with an extra attacker.

Huskies Spoil St. Lawrence Home Opener
with 7-1 Blowout in Canton, NY
The two coaches who are perhaps the most well-known in college
hockey for their interesting "character" and humor brought their teams
together Friday night (Oct. 18) at Appleton Arena in Canton, NY. Old
Friends, MTU coach Mike Sertich and St. Lawrence coach Joe Marsh began what
will hopefully be a long-standing tradition of scheduling the ECAC-WCHA
matchup when the Saints visited Houghton last season.
The Huskies were lead by Bryan Perez with 1 goal and 3 assists. Englehardt
scored 2 powerplay goals and 1 assist. Six huskies combined to score
a total of seven goals, while goaltender Ellsworth was exceptional with
only 1 goal allowed in 29 shots.

MTU's Home Opener.

up to watch one of college hockey's most bitter rivalries as the Huskies
hosted the Northern Michigan Wildcats for their first NCAA game of the 2002-2003
season. The Huskies outshot NMU but were only able to beat NMU goaltender
Kowalski once as Frank Werner scored unassisted in the second period.
